Locks

There are a dizzying number of Locks available and each is suitable for its own application. Selecting a lock for an exterior door is quite a different proposition to that of an interior door as the security required for an external door should be much greater. For this reason Locks on an exit door should include a deadbolt and ideally be a British Standard Lock and you will find most insurance companies will insist on this.

The most popular type of exit lock on a wooden door is a Mortice Lock or Night Latch with a deadbolt which locks the door in place and can only be unlocked by a key. Mortice Locks can be used in a number of applications while Night Latches are very common on residential front doors and include a snib button so that you can deadlock the bolt from the inside without using the key.

Another popular option is a Multipoint Lock or UPVC Door Lock. These are most often seen on patio doors and sliding doors and UPVC Door Locks offer great security due to the number of locking points. Multipoint Locks are also commonly used with composite doors.

Keyless access locks are also coming more to the fore with the continual advances in security and Digital Door Locks are very popular on internal doors. Mechanical or battery powered door locks are available and can be accessed by simply entering your own PIN code.

Window Locks also add a whole new type of lock to the mix with each Window Lock is designed for its own individual use. Window Locks can be fitted to wooden, aluminium and UPVC windows and offer secondary security to your home.
